Jan. 29th, 2006 10:31 amHELP! A computer idiot needs your help! If you know a tad more than how to switch it on - the limit of my knowledge - please help!
***UPDATE***THANK YOU, childer, for all your excellent advice. The problem is now solved! Ta, Chris, cariad, it worked! Snoogles you.
Richie, (digigrader), has sorted my ancient gas lap top so that I can write my stories in bed, and also access The Net!! YaY! The prob is that we (the royal we since I know zilch about it) cannot access hotmail becos we cannot get a @ up to type the e mail addy in. Nothing happens when you press the cap key. Either of them. We just get a comma anyway. This is patently not good. Is there any other way to access the @ key apart from pressing these buttons?
Your prize for solving this conundrum will be a slice of cold bread pudding and my everlasting gratitude. *Hugs flist to her heart.*

Date: 2006-01-29 01:05 pm (UTC)"Go to control panel then keyboard and check that its language is English UK. Also check that in Regional and Language it is also set to English UK or British UK dependent on your software. The other thing to check is that in the bottom right tool bar you don't have an icon that allows you to change languages. If there is you can use that to change it if necessary."
Hope you are able to sort it out between you!

Date: 2006-01-29 03:57 pm (UTC)Usually I would say that my knowledge of computers is about on par with yours and the above suggestions are great for actually fixing the problem but a standby should that still not work would be to use the Character Map.
If you're running Windows XP, click on start, all programs, accessories, system tools and finally character map.
Nearly all fonts should have the @ symbol.
Or if worse comes to worse, to even worse than that here's a couple to copy paste: @ @ @
I hope everything works out before you have to resort to that one though.
