Nice drawing of Thranduilon's Son. :D

I like nonsense sometimes. Having finished part 20 of my story, I decided on a wander about the Times UK newspaper. I found these in the announcements. I liked them because...I liked them.

I also found some books for sale on eBay that quite tickled me, too. So they're here as well.

Birth Announcements
Saxon Beresford Douglas Saber
Bruno Marmaduke Noel Findlay
Marmaduke and Randolf Rothwell
Hermione Perigee Maddison
Alexandra Afroditi Gubbins Barber
Sholto David Francis Hunt
Chiara Jenifer Bene Stuttard
Scarlett Mai Brunhilde Thompson
Milo John Crockett Mounde (Milo Mounde! Oh, Perleese!)
Darke Milo Simon

Engagements
Tom Leeming & Tamarisk Woods (Tamarisk! The poor girl sounds like a tree!)
Marc David Salter & Olivia Eleonora Toriglioni Del Cassereo-Nisbett (It was the boring Nisbett after all those exotics that tickled me)

Commitment Ceremonies - just cos they CAN, now!
Damian Jenkins & David White
Lisa May Wilson & Jemma Louise Triance

Marriages
Luke Anand le Roy Bird & Gemma Payne - cute
Prof. Nigel Eastman and Dr Bee Brockman - pretentious (Their friend don't need to know their qualifications, for goodness sake! Clive Williams, OBE and Dr Christina Hill (ditto)

BOOKS

Pests of Field Crops: The Agricultural Nematodes

The Watchmaker's Lathe

The Voyage of the Arctic Tern

The Poultry Manual

Why Not Eat Insects?

Ventilation in Public Buildings (I WANT this one - not!!)

(fascinating reading!)

Ah, well, it's just me, I spose! :D xxxx

Hm. I will have this book, I tell ya. It is calling to me! :D
I remember when I was in school, going to a lecture in the museum on the drainage and sewage systems of Swansea. This book, for excitemet, is on a par with that. ;D xxx

Wow, those names are bigger than the babies, I bet. And the one that gets me is Alexandra Afroditi Gubbins Barber. Afroditi? When I see a name spelled in such a bizarre way, I always wonder if the parents did it because they were trying to be clever and "different" or if they really don't know how to spell Aphrodite.

And those marriage announcements about Professor this and Doctor that! La-di-da. BFD.

These are all most amusing.

Yes, I was wondering that, too. I remember posting that list, ages ago, of names, and that woman who chose 'diarrhoea' for her daughter because it sounded nice. Syphilis too. ;D xx

The names some people have! I liked the Saxon Saber one. :D

I bought a book about termites, once. ;-)

That Legolas drawing is gorgeous.

Termites are interesting! Nematode worms? Hmmm.

The pic is great isn't it? By a woman who sells them on eBay. :D xxx

Marmaduke is strangely popular. Why!? And 'Why not eat insects', indeed. I have done it by accident on several occasions. :) Oh, the lives some people lead. It makes me wonder what they do for excitement. :D

It was very popular in Regency times. I think some folks just like the thought of their son being hailed by the diminuitive - Duke. :D

I did try chocolate covered ants, once. They were just like currants, only not sweet. Ugh! ;D xxx

Indeed, he does. Not nearly as interesting as my fave Englishman, an officer who died in the First World War who rejoiced in the name of - wait for it - Leone Sextus Denys Oswulf Fraudati Filius Tollemache Tollemache de Orellana Plantagenet Tollemache Tollemache. I adore him. :D xxx
