Oh and I LOVE the Mass in C Minor. *goes to listen*
Which version do you have? I have one with Kire Te Kanawa and Ileana Cotrubas as the soloists, John Alldis Choir and the New Philharmonia Orchestra, recorded in the All Saints' Church, Tooting.
Fave bits are "Et incarnatus est" and "Laudamus te".
Ahh - thanks for reminding me of this. I haven't listened to it in ages. Here's to you Issi and you, Wolfie. *raises her cup of peppermint tea* (Well it was the only thing to hand)
I have that one as well! *Loves Mozza and chick* I also have a coupla others too. I have abt 6 recordings of his Requiem, each one different as ya know!
If I HAVE to pick faves, mine must be Exultate and the Alleluijah, mainly because, in the alten zeiten when I could sing, I could sing those.
Didn't know there was a film kiddo. Must keep my eye open for it. :D
Yup, Prim. It is Mozart, indeedy. I like the film, too, however historically inaccurate it may be! Tom Hulce did a great job, and FMA, too, as Salieri. Could watch that RIGHT NOW!! :D
*swipes away the Magic Flute with my Greensleeves, runs off with the swiftness of a Lark, singing Thomas Tallis's theme and Dives into bed where my quilt resembles the tomb of Lazarus...*
I love Amadeus too and had a mad crush on Tom Hulce at the time. You know I have often wondered if they had made Amadeus these days, whether Elijah would have been offerd the role and what he would have done with it. When I was musing on that some time ago I got all delirious imagining him in those outfits and crazy wigs. I just know he would have look stunning in those tailored coats and stocking showing off his shapely calves. I think I hyperventilated thinking about it all. It really does something for me would you believe. I also imagine him in outfits more 17th century a la The Draughtsman's Contract. I think his features would have totally suited the haughty demeanour affected by the characters. Oh somebody stop me I need a drink of water!!!
In Seach of Mozart is only just started playing in "art-house" cinemas here in Melbourne. Also not sure if Australia is behind the rest of the world with the release date. Sometimes that happens. Other times we seem to be ahead of the UK, although only with a few films. So yes, do keep an eye out for it. It may be playing in your neck of the woods as we speak. It does sound very interesting and apparently due to new research, gives a totally new view of Mozart's character, cause of death etc. - all accompanied by his wonderful music.
Might be showing in the Arts centre, chick, but very unlikely in the mainstream cnemas. Cultural backwater here, when it comes to cinema, I'm afraid! Still, I will keep my eyes open. :D
