Baby Crittur

Well, girls - a new book-binder has opened within spitting distance of my front door, and, as I have a desire to see my writings in print - even if I have to pay to do it - I decided to pop in.

...that Wednesday, I popped in to the well-appointed offices, to suss things out. I was dressed, as is my wont, in my grey padded jacket, purple trousers and my HAT, of which this is a new version, grey and utterly old lady-like.

Leaving my invalid scooter - Sauron; black and menacing - parked outside the door, I ventured in, to be met by an Italian gentleman - short and dark, just like a Welshman, with a different accent, who told me that they did indeed, take very small orders for printing and binding.

"Do you take homo-erotic literature?" I asked, leaning heavily on my walking stick, as I was tired. He stared at me as if I'd just spoken in Martian. "Meep?" he said - or something very like it. I sat down on a comfortable leather seat, and explained slash to him.

"Meep?" he said, again. "Er, yes-a, we do. I take-a anything as long as-a I am not in it!" he said, grinning, cottoning on at last.

When I got home, I found a mirror. There was, looking back at me was a wobbly little plump old lady - in hat, with no teeth in - I had forgotten them - and looking every one of her 63 years. I giggled a bit. He was, however, interested in slash.

"My-a brother will be back in a minute", he said, the next morning, when I had taken in the book I wanted him to see. "Ah! Here he-a is! FA-bio! FA-bio! Here is the lady I-a told you of-a yesterday!" I could hear them both laughing, even if they looked serious!

However, the upshot is that they print - 10
pence a page, (200 pages £20) - best quality paper, and the binding is in beautiful faux leather for £180 for six. Paper charged separately, of course.

So - if any of you fancy your own works in print - because I can't do six all at once - do feel free to email me. We can share. He takes it on pen-drive. After Christmas, of course! :D

FA-bio! Is cute. Forties, perhaps? A babe-in-arms to moi! I have no idea what his brother is called. Their work is extremely good. I think I'll have Inca done first, but it will take me for ever to alter for printing (take out html etc) so definitely after Christmas. I'm looking forward to it so much. I'm saving my Crimble money towards it!

Just thought I'd share my funny moment with my friends. FA-bio - lous!

I love this.

No, that doesn't do it justice. I LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVE this!

I wish I could have been there to see you (with no teeth) and to just glimpse his face in that moment when he finally, finally got what you meant. That much have been glorious.

I want to be you in a few years time - to have that confidence. Only, I'm going to have a purple hat!

I sure must have looked a sight, my love! But his face was glorious, yes it was! BTW, I have a purple hat!!! :D xxx

"I take anything as long as I am not in it!" happens to now be my quote of the day. *rolls* This was very funny. I'd have paid good money to have seen their faces when you went to their office. Bet it was priceless!

Ahahahah!!! This is a great story - and a wonderful idea! There is something I'd really love to see in print, but it's errr, in the thousands of pages... of course divided up into various smaller stories, so it would be manageable in several small bites (and spread out over time for cost reasons). Oooh this would be cool... what format do they take the files in - Word, or also PDF? I only have the oldest files as pdf and html anymore, since the Word files were lost in my first harddisc crash in the early 2000s - pdf and html I could recover from the website. And there are some colour pictures in each document too, would that change the price, do you think?

From: [identity profile] ismenin.livejournal.com
I think you'd have to present it as you want it printed, my love. I'm sure Word will be fine - mine are on Jarte but also in Word. I might have to check. I think the html would have to come out. That's what I'm thinking to do with mine, anyway. Next time I - or one of the boys - go past I'll have to get their email off the front of the shop and ask - it'll be quicker - and warmer - than going about in this weather. You can have colour pics as well, for a little extra.
If you want to grab one of my six volumes to print yur own, it'd be £30 for the binding, plus 10 per page and a little extra for colour pics. Let me know, I'll add you to my list! The more the merrier!! :D xxx

Which book are you printing??? Because I would love to buy a version!!!!

I'm gonna do Inca One, my love. Not sure how many pages it'll be, but it's £30 for the binding plus 10 pence per page. Later I'll do Inca Two.

If you want one, without knowing exactly how much it'd be, (cos I've no idea how many pages, yet. I can tell you after I've sorted it) I'll gladly put you down for one, lovely girl. Just let me know! ;D xxx

In all honesty I was thinking about the Son of the Sun's series :/ Inca was very good, but I would LOVE to see the Egyptian one on book...

Oh how funny! I would have loved to have been there to take a snapshot of the poor guy when you talked to him about slash. I have to admit his response was great though.

I'm going to be chuckling about this all day today.

I'm still laughing anyway. His face was priceless when he finally got what slash was! ;D xxx

That's fabulous-a! :D Wow, I'm excited that you're going to do 'Inca'. You know how I adore that one. Is it 200 pages, then? It seems like most of your stories are quite long, perhaps over 200 printed pages. Can he go by word count to determine the number of pages? Will you include a page or two of artwork?

BTW, is it possible for us to get one of your bound stories, or is this just an offer to have our stories done? I don't think all my stories put together would be 200 pages. : )

PS Did this FA-bio have long, blonde hair?
;-)

Date: 2008-12-12 05:19 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] ismenin.livejournal.com
Well, the prob is, Prims, my ove, that I'd have to alter all my files because I write in 16 font bold type, due to not seeing well, so, although I know how many pages are in a chapter, and how many chapters in a story, I only know it in 16. I'll have to down them all to 12 font and take the spaces out to lessen the pages - Sorting out will have to be done!

If you'd like a copy of Inca One, I'll gladly add you to my list! It's £30 binding for 6 copies, + printing, as I said, but it'd be a little less for binding if I got, say, 8 instead of 6.

FA-bio was very like Alan Lee actually. Bless. :D xxx

From: [identity profile] primula-baggins.livejournal.com
Is the price £30 each or (£30 divided by 6), £5 each? If about £5 each, I'd like one. When you know the exact price, we can talk on how to pay for it later, I suppose.

"FA-bio was very like Alan Lee actually"

No long, blonde hair then! lol!

From: [identity profile] ismenin.livejournal.com
*Takes Prims off list* Sorry, my love, I wasn't quite clear. It's £30 each PLUS the printing - which is a lot per book! But still, if you gather all your own stories together, and want me to include your book in my list of 6 books, I'll gladly do that.

Long blond hair would've been nice! ;D xxx

Darling, this is wonderful. Your Italian gentleman must've been flummoxed at first, but he recovered admirably. And to think you'll have your story bound into a book, I love it.

I so want to see it bound in lovely green faux leather, with gold lettering on the spine, Mewsie! I don't want much, in this life - but I'd like that!! :D xxx

I wonder, too, if they'll read. I was going to do Untamed first, cos it's shorter, but it has too much graphic sex and swearing in it. At least Inca is more, er delicate! ;D xxx

Meep?

Bwahaha! Issi! I thought for a moment that you'd broken the nice little man. I see he recovered. :D I have this mental image now of a sweet lady in a grey hat talking to a strange man about slash.

What excellent news that you will now be a bound author.

Now, now, girls. *looks around with eyebrow raised* BDSM is not what I meant! *giggles*

What a great idea, binding your work.

As for your Italian gentlemen binders, I would suspect that when it comes to matters of the heart and/or libido, there would be precious little they wouldn't find fit to print.
