This is NOT me - it's Prim's pic of Lighe's Aunt Ermyngarde. Nice, ain't it? :D

I decided on a Spring Clean. [livejournal.com profile] ladysunrope or my sis, [livejournal.com profile] pattilovesviggo will tell you what my house is like. There is not room for as much as a small paperback book, here. I cannot count how many shelves of books there are. One day I'll count"

So, feeling virtuous, I gor rid of - 2 computer monitors, a toaster, 21 videos, two duvets and covers and pillows and cases and a toaster to our freecycle group. I listed for sale, a throw and a sewing basket, two more throws and a bag of kitchen stuff - some free, some for a moderate charge, in my local paper.

As I was listing in the freecycle Yahoo group, I noticed someone had BOOKS for free. Being me, I applied, and today I took ownership of 4 banana boxes of books, the earliest published in 1899, and she (the donor) is bringing me 5 more boxes next week.

So now I have a floor full of books, (300) and nowhere to put them. Well, there are the two shelves Rich has just cleared for me in the pantry!

As LSR would say (and I quote) "What are you like?"

I'm like me - and I like BOOKS!!

"My name is Ruth, and I am a Book Addict" This is very true, and no joke, believe me! But I still make myself laugh. Can't help it!

Aunt Ermyngarde is foxy.

I'd love to get my hands on some really old books like that. And if you don't adopt them, they'll wind up on the street, panhandling for a living.

She is one foxy lady, indeed! :D

The oldest book I have that belongs to my family is a book of sermons and catechisms from 1635. Now that is old! I love this old stuff. The books were so well-made, too. Put aside for immediate reading are: A bio of Bosie who was Oscar Wilde's boy lover, the Bagdavadghita (or however), lovely tiny edition, The Hunting of the Snark, by Kipling, (looks like a first edition or close as it has the swastika type symbol on the inside cover). I am over the moon. xxx

*giggle* I may not have quite *cough* as many books as you, but oh yes, I understand your problem! It's not easy having many interests. :) I really need to do a spring cleaning and for example reduce my two dozenn-ish binders of LotR and other fannish magazines (ask LSR, she's seen them) so I can finally take the photo albums out of their box and put them on the bookshelf instead. And there's some other stuff that's never been unpacked and/or properly put away since I moved out from my parents'. So a spring cleaning would certainly not go amiss!

And that reminds me, I really need to make a "hoarder" icon... :)

I have 9 folders of Star Trek magazines. They represent over £440. But I don't collect them any longer. I'd give them away except they're on the top shelf I can't reach, anyway, so there they stay.

Yes, a hoarder icon would be great!! :D xxx

After a year spent cleaning out books, getting rid of box after box of useless ones (which actually barely made a dent in the total), it took huge willpower on my husband's part not to go into the church's annual book sale!

Yeah. I know where you're coming from.

I do get rid of some, as well. LSR took a big bag-full home a coupla weeks ago - but I collect more to take their place. I am a bad girl, I am. So is your hubby if he collects like me. :D xxx

What a great manip! I love it!!!

We are starting tomorrow Spring clean as well. We have planned just our room for starters, or else I'd die with the dust that gets into books no matter how much you clean.

"My name is Ruth, and I am a Book Addict"

LOL. That was fun! I love books as well, but I just cannot get 300 books at home and pretend to live in the house as well.

*hugs you tight*

Oh, 300 extra is nothing here, believe me! Richie made space for them, anyway. And I'm waiting for folks to collect more stuff. I must have space. ;D xxx
